For Tomorrow By Jeanie Kim (내일을 위해_Part 4)

What have I learned?

I have learned a lot of valuable things during my stay at Naeil School. The way that I have been learning at Naeil School is a lot different compared to how I have been learning in the US. In the US, I would learn about US history, science, math, or language arts. I would sit in a classroom with about 25 other students with our books open, maybe getting ready for a test.

The classes at Naeil School prepare you for the future. You are given projects where most of the answer, you have to find inside your own mind. There are 3 major things that I have learned during my stay. I have learned that there are many things about myself that I didn’t know. I have also learned about the importance of planning ahead and teamwork.

There are things about myself that I didn’t know!

I found out that I have many things that I should fix or improve and that I have many assets. One flaw that I have found is being a procrastinator. In the US, when got a project that I had a few weeks to work on, I would usually push it off until the very last minute. While being at Naeil School, I learned that procrastinating isn’t a good idea. When I first came to Naeil School, I was struggling a little with turning assignments in on time. I started to try to fix the habit and I started to do a lot better with all of my assignments. I still haven’t completely broken my habit of procrastinating, but I have been improving and I am going to break this habit of mine in the future.

I have also discovered that I have many assets.  Such as not being very shy and being able to confidently speak. This also helps to make me look confident when doing a presentation. I am very outgoing and not shy, and that helps when I am trying to make new friends. This is really helpful when I go to new places.

Teamwork

I haven’t had a lot of experience with working as a team in the US. Most of the work I got from school is independent work. At Naeil School, about 80% of the work that you do is with a team or with a partner.

During my stay at Naeil School so far, I have been doing a lot of work as a team. Right now, I am in Pamily team. Our team is named Pamily because at one of our first team meetings, someone said that we look like a family. So we took the word family and replaced the F with a P. We did this because P stands for pass and F stands for fail.

While working with Pamily team, I have learned a lot about teamwork and how to work as a team. Working with a team is a lot different compared to working alone. When you work alone, you can go at your own pace. When you are working as a team, you have to move together. It is very important that you have patients and help each other out. If you are struggling or when you need help, you have people who can help you along the way.

I liked working as a team because I love to interact with other people. I think working as a team helped me a lot. There will always be something that I had missed while doing research. There are lots of times when a teammate had found information that I couldn’t find. I had learned a lot by listening to my teammates’ opinions.
